Topic > Marine Pollution: Causes and Solutions - 1740

As the world develops and the human population grows, more and more pollution is discharged into the oceans, causing serious problems for marine life and ecosystems. The main causes of marine pollution involve non-point source pollutants, marine litter, toxic ocean pollutants and wastewater disposal in the oceans. From heavy metal poisoning, including lead and mercury, that kill predators like sharks and whales, to waste that gets trapped in the digestive tracts of marine animals, this essay focuses on how human interference causes terrible problems for marine life, but also on how to solve them. It will also explore people's normal activities, including farming, and how this can cause an imbalance in an ecosystem. Daily activities can cause a massive nutrient load on an ecosystem, but by reducing the amount of laundry done during the week or by using earth-friendly detergents and fertilizers, this problem can be reduced. Marine Pollution: Causes of Aquatic Biodiversity Biological diversity is the variability among living organisms from many different sources, including marine and aquatic ecosystems, and the diversity within species and ecosystems. (Gray 1996) Some of the major components of marine biodiversity include genetic diversity, species diversity, functional diversity, community and ecosystem diversity, and habitat diversity. There are numerous quantities of living creatures and plants beneath the surface of the water that have not been identified. 90% of fish live in coral reefs, although only 1% or 17,650 of the marine life forms and species have been adequately identified and studied. (Miller & Spoolman 2012). Toxic ocean pollutants One of the main causes of marine pollution is toxic ocean pollutants.
