While many times it's not about the grades and getting into college, it's all the other aspects, including financial issues, level of independence, and whether a major is already determined or not. One of the most difficult decisions a high school graduate faces is the choice between attending a community college or a university. Community colleges and four-year universities both serve great purposes but are designed for different people. In my opinion, some would benefit more emotionally from a community college. There are several reasons why community college is a better choice for students. The reason I believe students should attend a community college rather than a four-year university is because class sizes are much smaller, students will have the opportunity to have a flexible schedule, and students undecided about their major will have the possibility to experiment and try different specializations. Although both have their advantages and disadvantages, both offer the same varieties of knowledge. Most community college campuses are small compared to universities, which means class sizes are typically smaller as well. Many students who attend college after high school have difficulty keeping up with the academic pace, and large class sizes of hundreds of students only make matters worse. At community colleges, professors are much more accessible and can provide the personal time that students are accustomed to. Community colleges are a level above high school, but also offer great learning and a social atmosphere on a smaller scale. During my freshman year of college, I attended the University of Missouri in Columbia. In most of my classes there were over 250 students and I didn't have the opportunity to meet a single professor... half of a paper... and half of Jatziri talking to the guidance counselor, she got realized she had a strong passion for helping people and is now majoring in nursing with me. Community colleges and universities both serve great purposes. Community College serves a better purpose for those who are not mentally or educationally prepared to move on to a much higher level education and for those who have jobs. It is also for those who don't want the social aspect or who want more personal attention in class. Colleges are designed for those who have achieved their high school goals and are ready to leave home and become more independent. It is equally better for the college experience than dorm life and athletic activities. It all depends on the individual student making the choice, their financial situation, maturity level and their general wishes during university life.
