The play focused on Hamlet and him wanting to avenge his father's death. In a way he let everything go and lost the trust of the people he surrounded himself with. He was socially aware of things going on around him, but seemed to only see what he wanted to see. He was unaware of the conflicts Ophelia was going through because of him. His revenge plan only failed when he didn't kill his father's killer and instead himself and other characters ended up lying. Ophelia's struggle, pain and misery constituted her madness which led her to end her life. If only Ophelia had been a different kind of person with a stronger attitude, then she might have been spared her life. Polonius is an example of how lies and deception can be evil and cause harm. Polonius, Ophelia's father tried in some way to protect his daughter by telling her to stay away from Hamlet but with an ulterior motive. Polonius was interested in what was behind Hamlet, but he hurt his in the process
