For starters, numerous researchers in the past have linked high risk of death to a lack of adequate insurance. The same issue is argued critically by Wilper et al. some researchers have even gone so far as to suggest that private health insurance, while expensive, is more effective than public health insurance (Goodman). Note that this is not the problem with the study by Wilper et al. Indeed, Wilper and colleagues compare health insurance to mortality rates, arguing that lack of health insurance is the cause of 45,000 adult deaths in America each year. The same point has been made by researchers such as David Cecere, of the Cambridge Health Alliance. According to Cecere, lack of health insurance is the cause of the majority of adult deaths each year in the United States. Cecere also claims that the figure provided by Wilper et al is two and a half times higher than the estimates provided by the Institute of Medicine (IOM). Other research published by the American Journal of Public Health determined that uninsured American adults are 40% more likely to die than those with health coverage, further underscoring the argument of Wilper et al. The study conducted by Wilper et al is, therefore, a clear indication that the increasing number of deaths among adults in the United States is due to the lack of health insurance coverage. Wilper and colleagues used data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP), formulated after a survey conducted across the country, which makes their study valid. Additionally, Wilper and colleagues consider various factors, including income, that make acquiring health insurance difficult for some people. Their argument also suggests that while most American adults… half of paper… 289-2295. Works Cited: Cecere, David.
