Not only that, but these positions tend to pay women less. It has been found that “female doctors earn on average about 36% less than what male doctors did in 2008 [and] female lawyers… earn about 80% of the salaries of male lawyers” (Shaw 410). This difference in the income of men and women is called the gender wage gap. The gender pay gap affects all women of all ages, education and backgrounds. It was reported that “in 2013 among full-time, year-round workers, women were paid 78% of what men were paid” (Aauw). The gender pay gap is significantly different when it comes to minority women compared to the average white worker. “Asian American women's wages show the smallest gender pay gap, at 90% of white men's earnings. Hispanic women's wages show the largest gap, at 54% of white men's earnings” (Aauw) . The pay gap is known to increase as a woman ages. “Women typically earn about 90% of what men are paid until they reach age 35. After that average earnings for women are typically 75-80% of what men are paid"
