The mill buildings that were once L/A's signature structures are once again thrust into the spotlight. The building is being renovated, and restaurants like Fishbones, Gritty's and Mother India are moving in. While progress with these buildings has been difficult in the past, there are indeed some differences that are starting to emerge. Another way the Los Angeles area stays in tune with local cultures is by hosting festivals that draw people from all over Maine and, in some cases, across the country. Los Angeles hosts the Great Falls Balloon Festival, the Lewiston/Auburn Greek Festival, and festivals celebrating the French-American population in surrounding areas. What all these events have in common is bringing together the old and new generations. It is very important that the next generation knows how L/A was brought together and who the people were who built this city. Without these vital traditions in the area, Lewiston and Auburn could lose the unique identity of a former mill town and become simply another town without a unique identity.
