Located on the Pacific coast, El Salvador is the smallest country in Central America and the most populous. The foreign policy of the United States of America on El Salvador is best explained by President Obama's approach to Latin America, where the United States focuses on economic growth and equality, energy and climate control, and regional and citizen security (Foreign Policy, 2012). This is best explained using the international level of analysis and neoliberalism, where global structure and economic interdependence provide the foundation of American foreign policy. To ensure that you can see transparency in the US methodology, I will provide the history of El Salvador, the creation of the US interest in El Salvador, and finally the current agreements and the results it offers to both nations. Before we get into the important aspects of the article I will define some of the essential terms to ensure that the order in which I explain this essay makes sense, as do the political terms I will provide. First, supporters of “neoliberalism” support the worldwide development of democracy, open markets and free trade (Papp, 2005). Second, the level of analysis I will use is the “international level” which I will refer to as the nation [as a whole], international governmental organizations such as the United Nations, non-governmental organizations such as Doctors Without Borders, and the global community [allies or not] (Papp, 2005). I will then provide my counterargument in which I will use classical realism and the national level of analysis to support my refutation.
