The main purpose of this text is to explain that the global warming trends we hear so much about these days are actually “part of a natural trend with a cycle that translates in high climatic temperatures every 1,500 years” (Avery). Provides historical documentation through ancient record-keeping methods, geology, and biology. The wine grapes were the most convincing part of the historical evidence for me. “People grow wine when and where they can. The Romans wrote of wine vines and olive trees gradually being cultivated further north in Italy” (Avery). Looking at this evidence, it makes sense that we can monitor local climate change based on where we can grow the crops we are used to growing. Changes in temperature and precipitation will all impact how crops will grow and adaptations will need to be made to accommodate these changes. The geological evidence was also fascinating.
