Mohammad ibn Zakariya al Razi was born in Reyy, Tehran. Razi was a polymath, chemist, philosopher and doctor. He won the title of "first" in many of his works, such as the diagnosis of smallpox from measles and the discovery of chemical compounds such as kerosene and alcohol. Razi served in the courts as a doctor and was in charge of two hospitals in Reyy and Baghdad. Some of his works under the title of medicine such as “Kitab al-Mansoori”, “Kitab al-Hawi fi al-tibb” and “Kitab al-Mulooki” are used to this day and his contributions to medicine are considered eternal. Razi is known to have written around 200 books on topics such as medicine, philosophy, alchemy, astronomy, theology and logic. Contributions to Alchemy: Razi's main contribution to alchemy was the ability to transmute minor metals into silver and gold. He wrote two books on alchemy which have gained everlasting recognition: "Al Asrar" and "Sirr al Asrar". In his first book “Al Asrar”, Razi divided the topic of 'Matter' into three categories:1. Knowledge and identification of the components of the drug that come from plants, animals and minerals along with the description of each of the components in the treatment.2. Knowledge of the equipment and instruments used in alchemy.3. Knowledge of different procedures used in alchemy such as the sublimation and condensation of mercury, the precipitation of sulfur and the calcination of minerals with arsenic. His second book "Sirr al Asrar" is about chemical operations regarding pharmacology such as instruments used in the laboratory and chemical reactions. "Sirr al Asrar" gained special recognition in the West and was translated into Latin. Some of Razi's known philosophy books include: “Modern Philosophy”, “The Little Book on Theism” and “Ghasideye Elahi”. Razi's outstanding contribution to medicine had a great influence on the development of medical practice in Europe as well as on the scientific technology we use today. About 50 of Razi's manuscripts are available in museums and libraries in Iran, Britain and Paris. There are numerous hospitals and universities bearing Razi's name around the world, for example the "Razi University" in Kermanshah, Iran. Additionally, “Razi day” is commemorated every August 27 in Iran. In the modern world, Razi is known as one of the greatest and most original doctors.
