From the reading we've been doing recently I've been shocked by what a professional writer and I have in common. I've learned that all first drafts are terrible. I also learned not to freak out on my first draft. My favorite thing I've learned from our readings is writer's block. I always get paranoid when I can't get a single thought down on paper. These readings have taught me how to deal with it and not worry about it too much. My favorite quote from our readings is, “very few writers really know what they are doing until they have done it” (Lamott 190). I believe this single quote has helped me more than anything else in my writing. It gives me relief to hear a professional writer feel this. Likewise, another quote that I really liked is “writers must learn to be their own best enemy” (Murray 195). I think I already do it very well. It is simply astonishing that an author would say this in a published piece. I am very strict and serious about my documents. Sometimes I shouldn't be, but it comes in handy when I really need it
