Work Experience Report My work experience was at Select in Barkingside, from 23 September to 4 October 2002. The Select retail store is a small shop consisting of manufactured goods. The shop I worked in was quite small and only had eight girls working as shop assistants and two managers; boss and supervisor.============================================================ ======================My job was as a sales assistant throughout the store; the shop was divided into four sections. These shifts consisted of the front, back, dressing room and cash register. The manager gave me and the other internship students a job to do every morning for the shop shifts. I was allowed to work the cash register from time to time, but I had to be supervised by the manager. Despite this, the rest of the staff treated me with respect, the girls who worked there were all very kind and generous, helping me in any way they could. I have to say that this internship was a good choice.===================================== == =============================== At the back of the shop there was a small staff room, equipped with cameras, the the shop was obviously well maintained with adequate equipment and safety. ======================================== =========== ================== I acquired many communication and problem solving skills by helping and greeting the many customers who entered the store. However, I hadn't acquired any IT skills, which I was hoping to acquire, so I asked if I could take care of the deliveries and sorting of stock and prices. The clothing items were supposed to be discounted and I was told how to use the product pricing system. I was responsible for putting security labels on all deliveries and setting the price by opening the IT system and storing the product number in the computer/checkout. After doing this, I would count and stock the supplies on the bases. This helped me further acquire organizational and IT skills. I also regularly had to affix the was/now label to the item of clothing for sale and check whether the hangers were oriented correctly and showing the Select logo.
