Topic > Why I should become a pediatrician - 1000

“Work for a cause. Not for the applause. Live life to express yourself. Not to impress. Don't try to make your presence noticed. Simply make your absence felt." –AnonymousAs a child my mother always made me go to church, which was horrible for me, but one day being there made me want to get interested in becoming a pediatrician. That day the church asked the whole congregation to donate money for needy children and they showed a video of children receiving food and water, and the church wanted to give more to those children, such as medical help. The reason why I decided to become a pediatrician is because watching the video made me think that every child deserves the chance to live and laugh, enjoy life, dream and have a future, but due to lack of money those children cannot to have all this. It's a gift for mothers to have children and it's sad for mothers to see their own flesh and blood slowly die because they can't afford to go to the doctor. My family income is not that high. Both of my parents dropped out of high school, so they never went to college. As we all know, finding a high-paying job can be terrible without a high school diploma or college degree, but they make it. Studying to be a pediatrician is very expensive, but both my parents and I work hard enough to go to college. I am the first of my family's generation to be in college and have a set career. It's not easy being the first because sometimes it can be very frustrating because if I had to disappoint every single person in my family, I would look and maybe even be disappointed, not to mention my younger sister and my cousin. Everyone looks up to me and is proud to be the first to break that chain. During my first year of high school I volunteered in a program that involved...... middle of paper......fe and in doing so I broke the chain by deciding to be different by distinguishing myself from my family. Even though I should have been more emotional on my graduation day, I now understand why it was the most important day of my life because that day I should have said YES!! I've come this far. Graduating from high school was my junior goal and it was achieved. The fact that my minor goal was achieved made me realize that anything is possible. That day when I realized what graduation should mean to me, it made me better and set high standards for myself. My parents are both Mexican, so I'm Hispanic and in my ethnicity the percentage of graduates is not that high, but the fact that I even graduated and am already attending proves that I can be one of the percentage of graduates. My perspective has changed to become a different person and be successful in my life.
