The commander is the driving force behind the development of a unit's leaders and is responsible for determining the method, pace, and criteria of the leadership development program. Good commanders not only develop individual leaders, but also strive to improve the entire Army team and ensure good management of the profession. Developing individual leaders means working to expand an individual's specific leadership capabilities. Things like self-awareness, motivation, independence and responsibility. Organizational leadership development places greater emphasis on developing social skills to foster teamwork and interpersonal relationships. LTC Fullerton initially scheduled interviews with its core staff and senior noncommissioned officers to identify their capabilities, strengths and weaknesses.
