The reader responds with a sense of death and lifelessness to the fact that the environment is “extremely cold and grey” and nature shows no mercy towards unwary travelers. By accompanying the protagonist's reactions in a ruthless environment that gradually sucks the life out of living beings, the reader's sense of the story's atmosphere of survival increases; then, convinced by the protagonist's death, the reader is troubled by the disturbing consequences that derive from excessive confidence and recklessness. This story's use of the London setting mirrors the special effects and settings employed in survival shows and films – effects and settings that totally absorb viewers into the plot and atmosphere. It's impressive that a six-page story can evoke with words the same response that filmmakers use millions of dollars and truckloads of technology to achieve.
