"Part of what we do as human beings is care for others and contribute to others. That makes life meaningful but it doesn't necessarily make us happy" (Esfahani Smith ). If the shoemaker chooses the path that his father and grandfather also took a few other generations, it is possible that he chose that option to give full meaning to his life, although with a high probability of having an unhappy life whoever chooses to continue his father's destiny and one day pass it on to his children he might also be unhappy or even choose shoemaking as a career out of responsibility and not happiness. Many people choose to do things in life that they don't necessarily like but do them at any sacrifice for their loved ones and their surroundings. However, for many individuals there is no happiness without meaning, regardless of the suffering and pain they face
