Topic > Race In The Media Essay - 2242

The use of media has always been very tactical and representative of a statement or purpose. The issue of race has always been a topic of immaculate exploration across different forms of media. Mediated topics such as race, gender, and class have always been topics portrayed in the media as a form of oppression. The widespread use of media widely surrounds the world as the public is bombarded by media on a daily basis. There are many different types of media circulating among the public making them widely available to anyone. The media can hold immense power as it can distort the way people understand the world. In our society the media creates the dominant ideology that will be followed for centuries in classifications of race, gender and class. The media can be a powerful tool to use to display a message: this is how "... the media also resort to sensationalism with which they invent new forms of threat" (Welch, Price and Yankey 36). Media creators and contributors take advantage of the high power they possess and begin to display messages of ideologies that represent only one dominant race or gender. The film fails in this attempt to show a political statement in a comical way, in the sense that it actually depicts that people must be aware that we should be equal regardless of skin color, but it makes a mockery of it. that we are non-hysterically unequal. This film is not a comedy in the sense that the jokes are funny because they really aren't, especially for those who deal with these issues of discrimination on a daily basis. The movie basically promotes conformity in the idea that we all know that equality is a step forward and that we're not there yet, so let's face it and turn it into a mockery..
