The revolution of 1848 involved many European countries. The revolutions that swept across Europe included Germany, Italy, and France, excluding Russia and England. Many historians refer to the year 1848 as “The Year of Revolutions,” due to the way the revolts spread across Europe. The question is which political groups influenced this revolution and what were the causes of the revolution. The revolution united many different groups of people; they were able to put aside their differences to move towards the greater good of society as a whole. Perhaps the revolution was about basic human survival, through the availability of adequate food, shelter and basic necessities to live; and political upheavals to bring about changes in government. ("Revolutions of 1848") The revolution of 1848 in Germany was fueled by the ideas of liberalism. These ideas were a direct derivative of Enlightenment ideas, such as rights and the guarantee of constitutional rights that people were entitled to. Germany at that time was a socialist country. The working class sought to gain more power, thus strengthening the class as a whole and to have greater governmental influence on decisions made. ("The Revolution of 1848"). The aristocracy had a lot of apprehension about this issue, in the sense of job security. Nationalism played an important role in the revolution, through the idea of unity. A new conservative movement of liberals and nationalists had strong momentum but quickly faded. The working class played a key role in the revolution, because it constituted the majority of the population. This class would be the deciding factor in the outcome of a revolution depending on their willingness to participate. In......middle sheet......for change for the betterment of the country. The division of classes fighting for government influence has not always been just a matter of self-preservation. In the case of the bourgeoisie and aristocracy, they only wanted to prevail and maintain power. While the working class suffered, as the richer and more powerful bourgeoisie and aristocracy feared that the working class would overwhelm them because power truly lies in numbers.
