Topic > Responsible Consumer and Traveler - 1780

With the emergence of channels for obtaining travel information, people of different social classes have more foreign travel experiences than those who lived decades ago. This phenomenon can be demonstrated by the thriving tourism industries in all regions, including developing and developed countries. Living in the 21st century, I am one of the beneficiaries of technological developments such as the invention of airplanes and fuel that bring convenience to tourists around the world. It serves as a driving force for my graduation trip to Taiwan which will be used as an example to illustrate the impact of consumption in travel, food and gifts. This reflective essay aims to investigate the implications behind a certain selection of consumer goods or services based on the above experiences. At the end of the essay he will suggest alternatives to better build a sustainable environment in the future. Thanks to progress in transportation, people's geographic mobility is gradually improved and they are able to travel freely around the world for leisure; for example, the flight time between Hong Kong and Taiwan is just an hour and a half instead of a month traveling by cruise before the invention of airplanes. Furthermore, nowadays round-trip airline tickets traveling from Hong Kong to Taiwan cost an average of HKD$2000. Therefore, travel is no longer reserved only for the middle and upper classes, but is open to various types of people, including students. Nowadays, most high school graduates tend to go on graduation trips. I even planned a school trip with my peers due to this prevailing trend. Considering the limited budget and time spent on holiday, we designed an itinerary widely chosen by young adults... middle of paper... the bus could discharge 250kg of carbon dioxide, while each train on the tour released only 50kg for every cyclist. Therefore, vacationers are recommended not to overlook the environmental effect of each type of transportation mode when planning destinations for upcoming trips. We should consider the ecological capacity of society by minimizing the production of greenhouse gases in transport. It is known that man is generally self-centered and considers his own needs rather than the ecosystem. Therefore, we can donate to non-governmental organizations for the purpose of carbon offsetting. Despite the introduction of carbon offsetting programs by several major airlines, passengers were unable to trace either the partner organizations or the use of the donations. However, there are alternative green groups who clearly point out particular carbon offsetting projects and the motivations behind them.
