Each of these was instrumental in Munoz and JoJoa's study of adolescents learning the English language in Colombia. The study included several lessons that primarily focused on teaching students to learn English. These lessons were structured around SMART objectives, each of the students had the responsibility to plan their specific objectives, monitor their understanding and evaluate themselves with the criteria established by the tutor. After each lesson, students had the additional responsibility of writing a reflection on the lesson and obstacles encountered during the lesson. These diaries were extremely helpful in providing awareness of how each study participant felt during the learning process. The results of this study were quite positive regarding the practice implications of SMART goal setting. Before SMART goals were taught to students, none of the students were able to correctly set SMART goals. At the end of the post-test, it was shown that 35% (7th graders) and 52% of 9th graders were able to set SMART goals. However, this study states that SMART goals were set more effectively by older students due to the level of maturity and knowledge base attached to the student. The most important implication of this study is how core motivation and personal responsibility contributed to their enthusiasm
