This era was important because it focused on what was really happening in society and its reality. The Civil War also had a great influence on writing and authors realized what is most important in life. This time period particularly emphasized present issues instead of past or future ones. Between the 1930s and 1960s, however, America fell on hard times and everything began to change. These difficult times have led to different styles of writing. Changing values and world wars crushed all illusions of realism and a new literary era emerged. As the modern era developed, authors moved away from traditional literary forms of realism by illustrating the values and beliefs of the time, focusing on the influence of World War I, feelings of isolationism, lost feelings, and the impact of 'era upon era. families at home. The changing surrounding atmosphere greatly influenced the attention of popular authors of this time. During the modern era, authors began to change their writing styles illustrating the values and beliefs of this time. The values of the postmodern period were very different compared to other eras of literature. The surrounding condition of the United States has had a strong impact on American values and beliefs. America was going through a difficult time, caught in the middle of fighting what is known as “the last great war” and in a period of depression. The main character, Sartoris, goes through a difficult period in his life due to the conflict and violence that surrounds him. He is overwhelmed by all the negative emotions he feels, including fear and pain. The years following World War I were known as the postmodern era. During these years, many authors have emerged from the “lost generation” to express their thoughts and experiences during this time of change in America. Beliefs and values during this era differed greatly from the previous era, known as the era of realism. Many Americans felt lost during this time, feelings of isolationism arose, and Americans were also greatly affected at home.
