Topic > The importance of rape - 773

Culture includes the physical and social values that form a lifestyle and the concepts with which these are communicated and expressed. Culture includes the norms of society and practiced morals, as well as the rituals and traditions that serve as guides to govern human behavior. Unfortunately for some, these moral values are often lost and consumed by an immorality that resides in the souls of many human beings. In turn, the result is the destruction of the very things we hold dear and the devaluation of the meaning of life. Humans are the most intellectually and culturally advanced organisms on this planet, but an important aspect that distinguishes this species from all others is the remarkable capacity for inhumanity. Rape, an instrument of violence committed against individuals of all ages in society and in times of war, is an act from which victims suffer throughout their lives. The question arises as to which age group is most susceptible to these crimes; however, it is recognized that age is undeniably not a means of protection from rape. Statistically, rape victims are distributed in various age groups, 15% are under 12 years old, 29% are 12-17 years old, 44% are under 18 years old and 80% are under 30 years (Get The Facts, 2014). It is an astonishing fact to understand that children as young as 6 or 5 or even 4 years old and adults above the age of 40 are victims of such crimes. Rape is by no means concentrated in one region or nation; it is universally problematic, leaving men, women and children vulnerable. Just over 2 years ago, a 23-year-old woman in India was beaten, raped with an iron rope...... middle of paper ......and in an attempt to terrorize enemy civilian populations (Barstow, 2014 ). It is unfortunate that most of the victims are women and children, individuals who have no reason to be so cruelly terrorized. Two of the worst cases of sexual slavery of women occurred in territories conquered by the Japanese military, in addition to the mass rape committed by advancing Russian fighters against German women (Barstow, 2014). Clearly rape is an issue of great concern when the frequency of such offenses is taken into consideration along with the application of rape as a weapon of war. Through countless acts of rape and sexual violence, it is proven that no one, of any age group, is safe from these crimes. However, individuals often display acts of violence and cruelty not only towards other humans, but also towards innocent animals and pets.
