Mexican immigrants were treated and segregated as African Americans and were not allowed to enter “whites only” buildings. Mexicans were portrayed by their employers and communities as inferior and ignorant. “Let him have as good an education but still let him know that he is not as good as a white man.” The downturn of the Great Depression led to a repatriation process for illegal Mexicans. “Private charities and government agencies
