Andrew MechMrs. LovingEnglish III Honors18 April 2014When people see flashing blue and red lights they automatically think "trouble". People don't respect law enforcement. If people obey the law they will have no worries, because there will be no need for punishment. Law enforcement has more aspects than just giving citations or taking away someone's liberty. Law enforcement is a necessity in our society because without it the world would be devastated. Law enforcement enforces the laws and maintains the safety of the public. Law enforcement is the prevention, detection, and investigation of crimes, as well as the arrest and detention of individuals who violate the law (Bureau). It plays a huge role in our society. Enforces laws, maintains safety for the public. Behind the name “law enforcement” there are numerous aspects. Without law enforcement in our society it would be chaotic. The world would be outraged. Law enforcement prevents this from happening by monitoring people's actions. Getting involved in law enforcement requires a person to start at the base of the totem pole and work upward. Each person must start as a patrol officer. An applicant must be a citizen of the United States, must be at least 21 years of age, must have passed a physical and written fitness exam, and must have a high school diploma (AS). Instead of the age requirement of 18; the requirement is 21 years old, because the officer must be legal to handle alcohol. These qualifications are usually the minimum requirements. The process of getting hired normally includes a physical and written exam, an interview, a background check, a credit check and a drug test (How). Police work can be physically performed... middle of paper... called into service for specialized missions. These types of jobs, like police officer, resource officer, and SWAT, enforce the laws and protect our society. The violent crime category includes murder, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault (Uniform). Law enforcement agencies across the nation reported a 5.4% decrease in the number of violent crimes brought to their attention in 2013 (Uniform). People look at these kind of people in a bad way, because when people see them they think "trouble". Laws are enforced to protect everyone and regulate. These jobs are responsible for this. If a person disobeys the laws, for example, police officers, resource officers, SWAT will give consequences to those who violate the law. They are on duty and putting their lives at risk for the safety and security of our society.
