AbortionThe debate over abortion and its morality has been around for quite some time. Usually the arguments for this topic are either that the fetus has the right to life and others say that every woman has the right to say what happens in and to her body. The research opened my eyes to see that there is much more to consider in this debate. It's not black and white like most debatable topics. I have always been someone who did not support abortion and was very closed-minded towards those who are pro-choice. This assignment has helped me grow and open myself up to hearing what people believe abortion should be allowed, even if I don't agree. The strongest argument for why abortion is immoral is because an abortion robs a fetus of the infinite possibilities of life that a person can potentially become if allowed to grow to maturity. This argument is presented by Don Marqui, a moral philosopher and journalist, in his response in “Why Abortion is Immoral” (88). In standard form, his argument might be expressed:1. If a fetus is aborted, the possibilities and experiences that a potential person could have had are taken away.2. The fetus is aborted:. The fetus fails to experience the infinite possibilities of life. This argument is deductive because in definition the conclusion is assumed to necessarily follow rather than presenting a high possibility which would be an inductive argument. This deductive argument is painfully obvious, but it is what it is. The premises are exactly what they are, they are facts. If the fetus is aborted there is no longer any possibility of a life experience. Simple but equally strong argument. Taking away someone's possible life experiences is terrible and could apply... middle of paper... to having an abortion in the first place, I don't think they need the world to judge them for their choices. All in all I now feel that there is more to a topic than we want to get right. Work cited Marchese, Don. "Why abortion is immoral." The Right Thing to Do: Basic Readings in Moral Philosophy.
