While accumulating data is essential to interpreting progress and making progress on future initiatives, the ability to visualize data is critical. Data visualization allows for a superior understanding of information. The three most common ways to visually display data are through the use of pie charts, bar charts, and line charts. Pie charts are best used when comparing parts of a whole (data-driven decisions). One disadvantage of using a pie chart is that you will not be able to see changes over time. If you are trying to best track changes over time, bar charts and line graphs will be used. When smaller changes occur, it is better to use line charts than bar charts.
