The first instrument was discovered in the 1990s and dates back to 41,000 BC according to Our World Our Music by Robert L. Elliot. This indicates that there may have been music during this period and it is difficult to know what it may have sounded like due to the fact that their notation system may have been different. It wasn't until the 1800s that people began recording music (Elliot chapter 2: page 53). The first form of music was Gospel and this was because the church had a great impact in that period. It was only in the Renaissance that “secular music” became popular. This music involved everything that wasn't gospel. Over time, just like animals, music has evolved. They began adding more voices, instruments and lyrics. He went from one voice to one polyphony. The resistance was the historical period in which all art forms flourished. The Renaissance, as some might call it, was the era when music was officially printed. This had two major impacts: the first was that it allowed music to travel across the world unadulterated and the second allowed more copies to be disturbed across the world.
