A Goal-Oriented Action Plan for a Higher Education Student I have obtained an adjunct faculty position within the Pharmacy Technician program at Fortis College. Becoming a teacher and pursuing higher education was not my original plan. However, this opportunity allows me to practice my best skills, inspiring and teaching. Earning a master's degree in Higher Education with a concentration in Leadership and Administration will enhance my teaching skills and provide access to administrative roles within my current institution. Due to inexperience I am unsure of the duties and responsibilities of administrators within higher education institutions. I am confident that my current Higher Education Overview course will provide me with a clear picture and help me develop an action plan for obtaining an administrative position. Higher Education Overview Course Objectives The Higher Education Overview course is designed to encourage personal and professional goal setting, provide academic writing practice, and support peer networking. So my goals are to improve my time management, writing skills, and connect with a mentor. Personal Goals Like most online graduate students, I work while enrolled in school. I am also a wife and mother. Time management is key as I have multiple responsibilities. My personal goal is to improve my time management skills. Capella University offers various handouts on time management. The course structure encourages task and time management and has helped me be more productive on a daily basis. As I progress through the course, I want to get more accustomed to sticking to a schedule. Writing is not my favorite activity; I spent a lot of time reviewing graduate writing…halfway through the paper…opportunities to participate in to get my dream position. Summary and Conclusions The challenge will be to stick to a pre-planned schedule that can dissuade me from achieving my personal and professional goals. I printed out several planning handouts from Capella's time management webinars. Incorporating downtime into my schedule will force me to stop making excuses to delay working on course assignments. Following a schedule will also reduce my writing anxiety and result in well-written assignments. I plan to look for internships and volunteer opportunities within my institution and community to increase my chances of finding a mentor. I also created accounts on LinkedIn and several higher education job sites. Peer networking will also serve as an opportunity to create network connections that will enhance my personal and professional development.
