Topic > The Concept of Imagination in Samuel Coleridge's Poetry

(43-46) As we look at line 46, "Passion and life, whose sources are within", Coleridge indicated that this line of poetry was symbolized with the pursuit of passion and life through the imagination of the fountains within us, which is connected to God. William Wordsworth, a famous Romantic poet, used imagination throughout his poetry. He also believes that imagination comes from the mind. Wordsworth describes that the cruelty that people see is not what we saw as children, it is what we see when we are older. As children, we see a movie about princesses and want to be a princess (for girls) or a knight (for boys). “Formed by himself with newly learned art/a wedding or a party” (92-93). The common path of our lives comes between us and our happiness; as children we do not feel pain and/or despair. Furthermore, it describes that humans are born connected to God and Nature, but when humans grow up they lose this connection because they start to believe the information they have stored.
