Topic > Sonnet 130 Comparison - 993

The message that can be conveyed in Sonnet 20 is that of the speaker's homosexuality or bisexuality. In contrast, in Sonnet 130 it may be clear that the poem serves to criticize true beauty, acting against the canons that had been established, in the sense that beauty is not always internal. These are therefore two poems that allude in different ways to the sense of sight. However, both convey an emotional effect: Sonnet 130 does this when it describes the lover, while Sonnet 20 does this when it talks about the speaker's love for the young.
