Topic > Comparison of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Savannah...
John the Baptist, the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Chartres is also a landmark for Chartres, France, where it is located. Built between 1145 and 1250, Chartres Cathedral features the same French Gothic style as St. John the Baptist, but on a much larger and more drastic scale. After being destroyed by fire in 1194, Chartres Cathedral began reconstruction in the French Gothic style, over 700 years before St. John's was rebuilt in 1898, after suffering similar damage in a fire. Chartres Cathedral is also a noteworthy sight because it houses the Sancta Camisa which is believed to be the tunic that the Virgin Mary wore when she gave birth to Jesus
