Analytical PaperWhen looking to improve leadership skills it is important to immerse yourself in concepts that foster an environment conducive to high-performing teams. Two of these concepts have been discussed at length: Conflict Resolution and Team Building. This essay will discuss the importance of these ideas as they relate to leadership and what aspiring leaders can learn. Second, which of the readings on the topic creates the “best” model for effective leadership within an organization? Finally, what impact can you expect on the organization if these ideas are not implemented? All of these are relevant questions that those who aspire to be great leaders must answer. There are several areas of concern when discussing leadership characteristics. One of these areas is directly linked to the conflict. Every organization will experience conflict. It is up to leaders to resolve conflicts that can negatively affect organizations. In doing so there are several approaches to consider to ensure a practical solution; accommodation, avoidance, collaboration, competition and compromise. Of these options, collaboration is considered to offer the greatest benefits to the organization. A leader who pursues resolution through collaboration exhibits traits that can be identified as qualities associated with effective leadership according to the BarOn Emotional Quotient Inventory (BarOn EQ~i), dealing with problem employees, and building and repairing relationships (Wilcox & Rush, 2004 , p. 8). . Of course, problem employees can create conflict, as seen in Dealing with Conflict by Masters and Albright. Addressing this issue collaboratively communicates the importance of the relationship between leadership and the individual with whom the conflict arose. In conclusion, aspiring leaders will find that conflict resolution and effective team building are important factors in building a successful organization. There are important lessons to learn in the readings Dealing with Conflict and The Five Dysfunctions of a Team. The best organizational leadership model should opt for the latter by default, due to the lack of a clear pattern in the former, but this does not detract from its importance. If there is a lesson to be learned it is that very relevant questions can be answered from these examples and ignoring them would be detrimental to an organization and its leader.
