However, just this year a Miley Cyrus song sparked a "twerking" epidemic, and there's simply no denying the impact it's had on teenagers around the whole country. The problem, however, is that hip-hop music promotes far worse things than the provocative dancing advocated in Cyrus' song. Others argue that culture is not actually influenced by music, in fact it's quite the opposite. They claim that the lyrics of hip-hop music are street poetry and embody black victimhood in the ghetto. However, if we accept this, we accept the fact that “ghetto life” is so desperate that an outburst of violence is justified. By encouraging rappers who promote this type of behavior we deem the behavior acceptable only because “ghetto life” is hard.
