The Schechter Poultry Company was a poultry slaughterhouse indicted on charges of violating minimum and maximum wage laws. Roosevelt's National Industry Recovery Act gave Congress the power to regulate local businesses in an effort to revive the economy. The Supreme Court decision found that the Commerce Clause did not authorize Congress to regulate the business of these products because the poultry was sold locally. The Supreme Court ruled that the National Industry Recovery Act was unconstitutional. The President had no authority to regulate the interstate commerce clause because the Schechter Corporation conducted only state transactions. This decision was a major blow to Roosevelt's New Deal plan and, as in the case of Humphrey's executor, led to greater persistence on the part of President Roosevelt in "packaging it all"
