According to Burke (2011), the Burke-Litwin model is the result of some organizational climate studies conducted by George Litwin and others in the 1960s. Around the 1980s was when the model started to develop because Burke and Litwin started working with some companies that were going through some changes, they worked first with Citibank and then with British Airways. The model is made up of 12 boxes that are made up of variables that are believed to be the most important variables for an organization. This model is divided into upper and lower halves. The top half is known to focus on things happening in the external environment and is made up of 5 boxes which are external environment, mission and strategy, individual and organizational performance, organizational culture and in the center is the Leadership box. The bottom half is known to focus on the internal environment consisting of 8 boxes representing management practices, structure, task requirements and individual competencies/skills, individual and organizational performance, individual needs and values, systems, and in the center there will be two boxes , work unit climate and motivation. Why is this important? The Burke-Litwin model is important because it focuses on both internal and external environments, making it easier to discover how performance is affected by these two factors. The external environment, the top half of the model, is also called a transformation factor due to the fact that any changes that occur in those boxes are normally causing... middle of the paper... um, she'll walk up to them and say to the customer that she is the manager and is willing to give him a discount if he buys the shoes now. This example shows that even though she is the manager, she is also there for her employees and uses her power to help them. How will the author use it? The author plans to open a nightclub. The author will therefore be the owner and the one who manages things. This position gives her a lot of power over others, but knowing how to use all the power the perpetrator has is what will make her successful. The author likes to maintain a relationship with the people she works with, always telling people what to do is not the way the author likes to handle things, she is more of a charismatic leader. “Leadership is about influence, not command or control” (Burke,2011, p. 255), this explains what the author believes.
