A study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that “each year, approximately 1.7 million hospitalized patients contract infections while being treated for other conditions medical, and more than 98,000 of these patients die due to the acquired infection” (Cimiotti et al., 2012, p. 486). It has been suggested that nurse burnout is linked to suboptimal patient care and patient dissatisfaction.
