Topic > Forgiveness does not change the past, but it does...

“For if you forgive men who sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." (Matthew 6:14-15) This is a verse I grew up with and was taught throughout the years I attended Catholic school. One of the main life lessons taught in Catholic school was to forgive each other and follow the word of Jesus. This verse is an example of the key to forgiveness; If you don't forgive you won't be forgiven. What is forgiveness? To me, forgiveness means overcoming a past mistake and coming to terms with that individual. Is forgiveness a process? I think forgiveness can be a very long or short process depending on the type of damage done to the individual. Overcoming a painful experience from the past can be difficult for some people, and the severity of the harm done to a person often plays a role in how quickly a person is willing to forgive. Forgiveness is learning to get over something someone did to you and accepting or offering their apology. The act of forgiving is not always apologizing to someone, but showing them actions of forgiveness. It can also be something that seriously hurts someone and they can make a simple apology and move on. This type of forgiveness for me is used when someone has intentionally done something or an unbearable act to you. Having forgiveness out of your life and practicing it in your life only improves and makes life more attractive and enjoyable. Forgiveness can be a process that takes years to fully happen and truly trust that person again. Depending on what is done and how long it takes to fully accept or give the apology. The first step towards forgiveness is to recognize w...... middle of paper ... and come to terms with a person or meet them halfway. It may be a long or short process, but following the steps of forgiveness can help anyone overcome it. As I mentioned earlier, Matthew 18:21-22 reads; you should not forgive seven times, but seventy times seven. This verse exemplifies the fact that forgiveness should always be given, regardless of how many times it needs to be done or the severity of the problem. Being a good person means being kind, generous, accepting people's flaws, and forgiving. To live a happy and successful life we must overcome the bad times and live for the good ones. To overcome difficult times, forgiveness is fundamental in our daily lives. It may not be what we want to do, but there is always a time in our lives when we want to be forgiven. Forgiveness is a gift that you choose whether to give yourself or not, accept this gift and use it in your daily life.
