Commodity refers to the buying and selling of raw or agricultural products such as coffee, gold, and aluminum. There are two types of raw materials, soft raw materials and hard raw materials. Soft commodities are agricultural items such as rice, rubber and wool while hard commodities are raw materials such as gold, oil and aluminium. Furthermore, some goods are necessary and some are desired and an example of necessary goods is water, food and desired goods are like shark fins. Shark fins need to be folded; it is only wanted as a commodity, most people don't need it that much to live. Every year we hear about sharks killing 10 to 15 people, but not only do sharks attack and kill humans, but humans kill millions of sharks a year for their fins (Mislinski, 2013). Shark finning began at the hands of a Sung Dynasty emperor, who wanted to show how powerful and wealthy he was, and serving this expensive dish was a sign of respect and is popular in Chinese culture today (History of Shark Fin Soup, N.d. ). Shark plays an important role under the sea and without shark species in the ocean they could be in danger. Shark finning can not only damage the ocean, but it can also affect the human brain. Shark finning has a huge impact on the ecosystem and the ocean, it can endanger sharks and this can damage the ocean; Sharks play an important role in keeping other fish populations on track and healthy and balanced, and sharks also keep the food web in balance (Shark's Role in the Ocean, Ed.). For example, they are able to feed themselves very effectively by hunting sick fish to keep the population healthier (The role of the shark in the oceans, Ed.). Some sharks scavenge the seabed to feed on dead carcasses.
