He was completely unaware of the true loving nature of God stated in John 3:16-17 “That God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son for us and for everyone who believes in him he will not die, but will have eternal life." (Bible Hub, 1 John 3:16-17) He used a monotone when he delivered his sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” but he preached as if he were angry at the people too. Edwards insisted that God was so angry that they came closer than they could have imagined from being thrown into the pits of Hell. The sermon may have been successful for some people, as those who imagined God dangling people from hellfire no doubt ran to the altar to seek repentance. However, some may have even lost faith altogether because they felt they had no chance before such an angry God. Unlike Jonathan Edwards, Anne Bradstreet did not write to preach or teach. He wrote on a personal level about things like the births and deaths of both his children and his graduate children. He also wrote about his illnesses and misfortunes. Both Bradstreet and Edwards wrote primarily about God, but Edwards wrote about God's power and strength while Bradstreet focused on God's mercy and eternal grace. Bradstreet's writings are based primarily on her religion, her children, and her husband. When Bradstreet wrote about her husband and how in love they are, she wasn't just saying how much
