Topic > Exploring the Roots of Psychodynamic Theory - 770

Talking about your problems and feelings is encouraged and helps people deal with their problems by identifying where attitudes and feelings come from. Unfortunately, psychoanalysis can surface false memories, causing a person to believe they suffered abuse in their youth, when nothing of the sort occurred. Lawrence Kohlberg disagreed with Freud's idea that conscience and morality begin suddenly at the age of 5 or 6, Kohlberg suggests that the development of morality is a gradual process that begins in childhood and continues to develop until adulthood. Psychodynamic theory cannot be scientifically tested and has relied on case studies to obtain results. All this was interpreted subjectively by the analyst. Freud's work has been criticized as being biased towards one gender and the focus of his theories that males are superior because they have a penis and females do not is biased in favor of males. Psychodynamic theory has its critics, there is no denying that it is definitely useful in some cases, examples of cases where psychoanalysis is useful are people who have suffered abuse, people suffering from eating disorders and those who need therapy family. All of this is unfortunately all too widespread in today's society. References
