Ernest Hemingway stated that "In modern warfare... you will die like a dog for no good reason"! While this is true, experts have gone further in trying to find the “roots” and explain why conflicts emerge. Two experts, Samuel P. Huntington and John R. Bowen, present two different approaches to the causes of conflict in the 21st century. Although there is a difference between their approaches, they both share the common belief that conflict can occur when one puts pressure on the other; but the reason why this pressure occurs varies between the two theories. In his article “The Clash of Civilizations,” Huntington points out that in the 21st century conflicts will not occur on the basis of the ideology of a state or civilization, nor on economic power; but they will take place because of differences in cultural and religious identity between civilizations. The first key point underlying this theory is the approach of Western civilization towards Eastern civilization. According to him, Western civilization promotes its “political and economic values, maintains its dominance and protects its interests” through economic and political pressure via Western institutions such as the UN and the IMF. This Western approach increases the cultural divide between Western and Eastern civilizations, but also within Western civilization; between Western Christianity and Orthodox Christianity. This approach can be easily understood if we take a look at the historical events in which Western and Eastern civilizations confronted each other, such as in the Gulf War and the Bosnian War, where the West used its power to protect countries belonging to the same culture , to civilization itself. This leads to a reaction from the Eastern government... in the middle of the paper... and exchanges a part of the region, thus creating conflicts between the West and the East which will apparently lead to war between two completely different ideologies. In conclusion, the wars they have been and will be part of our lives. In some regions, people still lack knowledge, so they tend to separate people based on language, culture, religion, region and historical context. Yet we have not been able to overcome these obstacles we create towards minorities, and live together in the same land. Although some countries try to get rid of these problems and live across ethnic boundaries, there are countries that point to you and remind you that it is “you”, and because you are who you are “we hate you”! When we overcome hatred, ethnic boundaries, there will be no conflicts, wars and articles trying to find how the conflict occurred!
