Two of the most famous women in literature, the lives of Madame Bovary and Mrs. Dalloway, although very different from each other, have quite a bit of similarity. Both women are believed to be unhappy with their lives, albeit for very different reasons. Mrs Dalloway, the heroine of Virginia Woolf's novel, lives in the world of the rich. Some of his daily concerns in life are how to make sure that the party guests like the look of the house and that the food and wine that will be consumed are excellent. Madame Bovary, on the other hand, is bourgeois and has some difficulty in daily life. Although quite comfortable in her life, Madame Bovary desires and insists on more things in her life as she would like to live a rich life. It is seen that the two women are both dissatisfied with the life they live as they both feel that there is something missing. Dalloway is portrayed as a wealthy woman, who has a fairly happy life and is carefree when it comes to obtaining material possessions and wealth. She chose to marry a rich man instead of her longtime friend who she knew loved her so much. You can tell she's happy with the way things are in her life, but she knows deep down that there's more to life than material wealth. The day shown in the life of Mrs. Dalloway shows how she thought about what could have happened if things had gone differently and if she had chosen love and adventure over wealth and security. The story of Clarissa Dalloway also focuses on the life of Septimus Warren Smith, a World War I veteran and neighbor of Mrs. Dalloway. This attention was shown in order to compare Mrs. Dalloway's thoughts when she saw the ambulance take away... middle of paper... parties and wealth, which she did not see that if she had done things right, she could have obtained all this with Charles and the money he generously gave her. Madame Bovary, although Flaubert tried to show her as somewhat virtuous in that she initially refused money in exchange for sexual favors, is too passionate and sexual an individual for her own good. She is a free spirited and very sexual person who should not be tied down to a child or a relationship as that will only hinder her and take her away from who she truly is as a person. The two novels which showed two different but similar women were both interesting to read. Not only did it show the escape of women at the time it was written, but it also showed how people make decisions and the way people act about their situation that would decide how their lives would go..
