Ashley Bye organized a campaign group in Georgia and told the campaign group a story of her own struggles. He mentioned coming from a low-income family and a time in his life when his mother became ill. His mother could not afford healthcare and continue to support the family. Ashley Bye described her favorite meal as a sandwich with salsa and mustard. Pres. Obama stated that Ashley believed it was the cheapest way for Ashley to eat. Ashley ate like this for a year until her mother recovered. In the story of Ashley Bye Pre. Obama mentioned how Ashley told the group that she joined the campaign so she could help other children who needed and wanted to help their families in the same way. Ashley went around the group of volunteers asking them to explain why they joined the campaign. President Obama told the audience; while everyone had their own reasons, there was one elderly black man whose reason was quite simple. Ashley asked the man why he joined the campaign and he said, "I'm here for Ashley." Obama concluded by mentioning that that simple statement speaks volumes. It has taken several generations to fight against injustice in America and the same march should have continued to unify our government and bring about a more perfect government.
