On December 2, 2001, Enron Corporation, a major American energy company, stunned the nation and filed for bankruptcy. Soon after this collapse a criminal investigation was conducted which revealed that the company had lied about their profits and hidden them so that they did not show up in their bank accounts. Many key people were involved in the downfall of Enron such as Sherron Watkins. Sherron Watkins was born on August 28, 1959 in Houston, Texas. She is “the daughter of two secondary school teachers” (Pellegrini, 2002, par. 2). As a child she resided with her family, “in a suburb of Houston called Tomball” (Pellegrini, 2002, para. 2). After high school he attended the University of Texas at Austin. There he earned “a Master of Professional Accounting and a BBA in Accounting and Business with Distinction” (Sherron Bio, par. 6). Having these qualifications allowed her to become a certified public accountant. Before receiving a job at Enron, Sherron worked in New York City for three years, "as a portfolio manager of the commodity-backed financial assets of MG Trade Finance Corp" (Sherron Biography, par. 5). Additionally, for eight years he worked “in the audit team of Arthur Andersen's offices in New York and Houston” (Sherron's biography, par. 5). In late 1993 Sherron joined Enron and held a portfolio management position. In this position she was responsible for Enron's “over $1 billion energy-related investment portfolio” (Sherron's Bio, para. 4). After three years she moved to work at the international Enron group. Here she focused primarily on “mergers and acquisitions of energy assets around the world” (Sherron's Bio, para. 4). In early 2000, Sherron moved jobs again, but to Enron's broadband unit. To Enron's broa...... middle of paper ......f Corporate Development. Sherron sent a letter to Kenneth Lay regarding his suspicions about the scandal and resigned from his position in November 2002.
