In today's society, all teenagers communicate and find out the latest trending gossip through social media. Since the introduction of the Internet people have always tried to find a way to communicate with people from all over the world, nowadays people connect through Facebook and Twitter. There are numerous negative causes of social media in the lives of young people: cyber bullying, addiction and unawareness of privacy terms. Cyber bullying is a new type of bullying; is when someone harasses another person through the Internet and verbally abuses them. Cyberbullying causes suicides “Cyberbullying has also been the cause of many suicides among young people” (Barnes and Laird). Teenagers do not realize that they are victims of cyberbullying, they may act as if they are playing and take it as a joke, but they do not think about the victim and what is going on in their mind, the victim may take it as serious and hurt themselves , especially if they are being bullied or criticized by someone who is well known at school. There have been many reported cases of teenagers committing suicide because they were harassed through social media. Additionally, cyberbullying causes depression in young adults, says Kowalski, “…cyberbullying is also a problem and can leave victims depressed…” (Barnes and Laird). Victims feel like they are not good enough and become depressed about themselves because of the constant bullying they experience. Secondly, many teenagers are not aware or alerted to the fact that they may have a social media addiction.
