Children throughout the United States and in California, especially in Orange County, have a sadly high rate of child abuse. Right now a child is being reported for abuse. People don't realize that this can happen in a family's home, in a nearby house, or even in the next room. Child abuse is happening everywhere and all the time right now and we need to realize every aspect of the effect and morality it has on children who survive or do not survive these abusive lifestyles. In the website www.brightfutures4kids.org there were so many shocking facts and useful programs to prevent child abuse in families who would like to put an end to these incidents. There are programs for babies, toddlers, visits, basic needs. etc. Each has a system of checks to help prevent abuse from occurring within all families. For mental health, two programs are planned: Home Health Services with "24 families with 115 therapeutic sessions with 147 hours of service" and Home Crisis Stabilization which "served 235 families with 9,535 hours of service". There are many other programs that provide help and they all have a high number of families being helped with their "mental health". Based on what is calculated on the amounts of families admitted, the rate of child abuse is high. “Every year in the United States approximately 900,000 children are victims of maltreatment, 18,000 are permanently disabled,” is a figure written within the statistical theme in “Prevalence of Child Abuse”. There are too many cases of abuse happening and it all happens just under Orange County. Data on awareness has been provided on another website at www.kidsmatterinc.org org as well as other websites that have been researched. Child abuse has actually increased over the years, sometimes decreasing but gradually increasing again. If the birth rate increases, abuse also increases.
