Proper adaptation and continuous evaluation of the operational environment were key factors contributing to the success of the US Marines during the Battle of Hue. However, even a successful tactical operation will not guarantee success at the operational and strategic level of the war. Indeed, they had successfully driven out the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) and Viet Cong (VC) forces after twenty-six days of bloody, arduous, and foreign urban warfare. The lack of effective operational control in Hue led to haphazard and disjointed tactical actions. Ultimately, the US Marines won the Battle of Hue. They accomplished their mission of cleaning up the city and driving out its enemies. However, the United States has failed strategically. Their actions during combat caused the American public to lose faith in the Johnson administration's war effort, which ultimately led to the removal of U.S. forces in Vietnam, thus losing the war..
