A friendship is something that everyone wants and desires, but what few fail to understand is that there are so many different types of friendships and while they may all be great, there is one that is essential for the soul. Before we can have an ideal friendship, we should have a clear understanding of what a friendship is. As stated in class notes, a friendship is a state of mutual affection. This basically means that the two of you share similar ideas and/or passions which leads to a constant mutual environment and therefore a connection or friendship. The life cycle of making friends has three key components in the formation of making friends. The first is proximity, which means being close enough to a person to keep in touch or simply engage in certain activities together. The next is to stay in touch with the person over and over again. Not so much that you make plans with the person, but simply inform them about the daily encounters of life situations, be they good or bad. Last but certainly not least, we have the opportunities phase which is the phase where you plan to hang out, share feelings and be present for each other. A friendship is a necessity; it's where we keep each other in check. This is also considered the "Good Friendship". No one wants to live without friends because we are social beings. A friendship is essential to being self-sufficient, meaning that all of a friendship's needs are met. According to Aristotle "Even those who have everything need friends". Friendships can be useful for many things. If you need help with a current situation or problem, a friend is there to help and guide you. After having a more concise understanding of the different types of friendships, I now I more or less agree with Aristotle that the rare kind of friendship is friendship based on virtue.
