Do children in an orphanage feel special or unique or simply unwanted? Are they privileged to have someone to talk to when they need advice or to discuss the turmoil in their hearts? Are these children taught right from wrong or discipline? They are given the chance to discover who they truly are, or they are forced to grow up and care for those around them, leaving them with limited childhood memories or carefree moments. In Russia, children in orphanages may never experience a typical domestic life as children. Nadezhda Vladimirovna Prisiazhnaia, a graduate student of the State University of Humanities states, “in Russia over 800,000 orphans and children are deprived of parental care; 260,000 live and study in more than 4,000 state colleges.” According to Prisiazhnaia, 92% of the population recognizes the problems orphans face, but still makes no effort to help or solve the problems. Forty percent of Russian citizens disagree and think that relatives should step forward and take care of children. 38% believe that civic organizations should take care of it, and 29% believe that everyone in the country should help and take responsibility for children. Graduates of orphanages have often received limited experience and education to go out on their own into the real world. Living in an orphanage limits children's ability to gain much social experience, making it difficult to enter the world after turning eighteen (Prisiazhnaia). In a survey of 245 students after boarding school, 56% lived alone and 54% had adjusted to their new life and were taking care of themselves. Just over h...... half of the paper...... do are. For example: the choice to continue their studies and obtain a degree, the importance of finding a job and supporting themselves or a future family when they are alone and much more. The home environment will allow the child to feel less alone and will know that there is someone there to guide them, listen to them and help them with any problems or concerns they may have. Children would benefit enormously from this new way of life. When children are placed in homes instead of large rooms, children are given more responsibility and understanding of the real world. These children crave affection and attention, they are looking for someone to help guide them in the right direction. By making these lifestyle changes in orphanages, better care can be provided to these needy children. Making a difference can be done.
