In the book “The Boys of Winter” by Wayne Coffey, the struggle to choose the twenty men who will go to Lake Placid to play in the 1980 Olympics and compete is shown for the gold medal. In this book Wayne Coffey talks about three points. The draft and training, the importance of the semi-final and the gold medal celebration with the support the team received upon returning home. A main part of this story is about the choice of the Olympic team and how they became as strong as they were. Before starting tryouts, coach Herb Brooks observed all the players trying out. He watched film of them, talked to old coaches and in some cases watched them play in a game or practice. It's important that he did this because then he didn't come to the tryouts without knowing any player and he showed that he already had in mind who he wanted for his team.
