In Jim's situation, he befriended a pirate who took him in and treated him like a son, however, the pirate's intentions while finding the treasure planet did not they were healthy. Before the two characters reached a consensual relationship, they initially clashed and Hawkins had to deal with the pirate's unruly temper and almost being thrown overboard by the rest of the crew members.
